It is no longer news that the Calabar-Itu road connecting Cross River state and Akwa-Ibom state has being in a bad state for while now and many of the road users and most especially the petrol tanker drivers are appealing to the government to fix the bad road.

Many road users have expressed discomfort when they use the Calabar-Itu road and most of them spend days before they reach their destination. Petrol Tankers all lined up, are occupying the road saying that the roads are too bad to move on.

The Nigerian Union of Petrol and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) had on Monday threatened to go on strike if the the Federal Government failed to repair the Calabar-Itu and also the Ikom-Ogoja road as quickly as possible.

Some people now use the option of using canoes and ferries to reach their destination instead of spending time in the bad spot.
Although the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Acting MD, Mrs. Ibim Sementari had on Sunday ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the Itu-Calabar road after going for a tour.
She said "several stretches of the road have become impassable to vehicular activity as travelers had to spend several days on the spots."
