Reduction Of Board Meetings & Their Allowances Could Save Up To A Billion Naira

The Ministry of Finance have discovered that the average annual expenditure on sitting allowances between 2012 and 2014 was N12.8 billion.  The Director of Information,  Ministry of Finance,  Salisu Na' inna Dambatta in a statement said that by 2010, part time Chairmen of government Committees ans Boards were paid sitting allowances ranging from N30,000 to N120,000 per sitting from four to eight times per annum.  The Efficiency Unit recommended that "A maximum of four meetings was considered adequate for Boards while other interactions can be conducted using Information Communication Technology (ICT) which is cheaper and already tested in Nigeria.

LitterGram Begs Facebook Over Name Change As It's Name Sounds Like Facebook's Instagram

Photo source: mashable.com  Facebook, had earlier told LitterGram (A UK-based application that lets people take photos of litter in public places and add a location tag to it) to change it's name saying that it infringes upon the name of it photo-sharing service Instagram.  LitterGram was given till April 28 to respond, before the founder of the app Danny Lucas responded  to Facebook, by posting a personal plea to Mark Zuckerberg in a video format.   He pleaded that Facebook's demand to change the name of "LitterGram" would kill its momentum and put it back to square one.  Although Facebook has not responded to the plea. LitterGram is an app that also share photos, but those of litters, that could alert local authority officials.

Fuel Tanker In Osun State Catches Fire

SON Confiscates Fake Eletric Cables In Plateau State

How DPR Caught NNPC Truck Trying To Divert Fuel To Cameroon

Photo source: vanguardngr.com  It's no longer news that fuel scarcity has being lingering for  a while, then a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) truck from Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River state that was supposed to take petrol to Calabar, Cross River state capital where it would be discharged for sale attempted to divert it to Cameroon.  Fortunately, the Department of Petroleum Resource intercepted the truck during a surveillance exercise on Thursday.  Mr. Bassey Nkanya, the Operational Controller of DPR for Akwa Ibom and Cross River stat, explained that the truck carrying the product was already  heading to Bakassi Local Government Area from where it would enter Cameroon through Ikang border before the DPR personnel intervened by intercepting the truck.  The DPR sealed the the NNPC station in Akampa and the truck was directed to NNPC mega station in Calabar, where the product would be discharged.  Mr. Bassey said the DR would continue to make effo

Computer Virus Attacks German Nuclear Plant

They said it didn't because it's control systems were not linked to the internet, so the viruses could not activate.  Some staffs found the viruses as they were preparing to upgrade the computerised control systems for the plant's Block B. The viruses were found on the fuel rod modelling system and on 18 USB sticks which were used as removable data stores on office campus.

LASG Says 24000 Vehicles In Lagos State Are Not Road Worthy

He stated this at a conference in Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa while marking the 2016 bi-annual safety week.  He said "Safety is not just a government thing. rather, it is for all citizens. When you maintain a vehicle, you are guaranteeing a life. There are no economic arguments for allowing rickety vehicles, just simply because we cannot place premium on any life."  He said that, along with South Africa, Nigeria has the highest number of fatality rates in Africa.

Volvo to Test Driverless Cars In London

Solid Mineral Minister Explains How Nigeria Spends Billions Importing Steel Annually

 The Minister of Solid Mineral Development, Mr. Kayode Fayemi while speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the ultra modern Steel Melt Shop in Kwara state, he explained how Nigeria spends about 887 billion Naira to import steel.  He said the country imported basic metals made up of  processed steel, aluminium products and associated derivatives consumed in the country. World Bank Officials Meets With Buhari In Abuja

FG Needs 2 Trillion Naira to Complete Ongoing Road Projects-Says Fashola

How PSC Intends To Select 10,000 Police Recruits Out Of Close to 800000 Applicants-Official

  Photo source: globalvillageextra.com The Head, Press and Public Relations of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani on Tuesday in Abuja said that the commission had received 796,152 applications for enlistment into the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).  Speaking to NAN, Mr. Ani said that the commission doesn't anticipate any crowd of such, as successful applicants would be invited batch by batch after collation of the names. He said successful applicants would be communicated through e-mail.  Mr. Ani said there would be no room for compromise as selection and collation would be done electronically.  The Police Commission in a statement; said that it will recruit 500 Cadet ASPs, 500 Cadet Inspectors, 1,500 Specialist Officers and 7,500 Constable in the recruitment of 10,000 policemen.

How Bangladesh Bank Hackers Targeted Swift's Software

Swift is an acronym for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial  Telecommunication which provides network that enables financial institutions to send and receive information about financial transactions in a secure environment. Hacker Discovers Vulnerability in Facebook's Server

This was stated while marking the World Malaria Day which is observed every 25th of April.  The statement issued by WHO, explained that in 2015 alone, 214 million new cases of the disease were reported in 95 countries and no fewer than 400,000 people died of Malaria.  It added that the "Global Technical strategy for Malaria 2016-2030" approved by the World Health Assembly in 2015, calls for the elimination of local transmission of Malaria in at least ten countries by 2020.  They added that, in order to further progress against malaria, new technology tools would be needed. CBN States That 4.9 Billion Naira Loan Has Being Given To Farmers In Nigeria

Huawei To Empower 1,000 Nigerian Youths-says Official

Former NAN Boss Dies Of Cancer

 Dr Nwabu Mgbemena, a one-time Director of the News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) has died at age 71, reports say that he died of cancer on April 22 in New Jersey, in the United States. This was disclosed by Chief Tony Idigo, his close friend.  According to NAN, Dr Mgebemena was one of the pioneer editors of NAN, saying that he served as the Managing Director for two terms, starting from January 1985 to January 1994.  Mgbemena was one of the original nine editors employed at the take-off of NAN, the nine editors includded Olufemi Adefala, Nwabu Mgbemena, Sani Sambo, Wada Maida, Dave Igiewe, Godwin Omole, Toye Olofintuyi, Willie Bozimo and Chukwura Ezebube.  Many members of staff of NAN expressed shock on hearing about the death of Mgbemena. DPR Seals Two NNPC Petrol Stations In Niger State

Photo source: newtelegraphhonline.com  Engineer Abdullahi Jankara, the Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) with his team has sealed two NNPC affiliated petrol stations in Minna, Niger's state capital.The two stations sealed includes NNPC Shango, located in Minna/Suleja Road and NNPC Maitumbi along Minna/Gwada road.  NNPC Shango was closed, for using one out of eighteen pumps in the station to sell to customers, Engineer Jankara described it as an act to hoard the petrol product.  The station said their pumps where not functioning but the DPR said that the station would remain sealed until at least 6 pumps were functional, he gave them 48 hours to repair it or face the  penalty of giving it free to buyers and also paying fine.  The Niger state DPR boss, Engineer Jankara also explained that the NNPC at Maitumbi was sealed due to the fact that they sold their product above the official price of 86.50 Naira, he said the station would remain sealed until th

Photo source: commons.wikimedia.org  LASEMA, the Lagos State Emergency management Agency, stated that it received a report of fire outbreak on Saturday at Customs Training School, Ikeja Lagos.  Although the cause of the fire has not being known, LASEMA Spokesman Adebayo Kehinde told newsmen that no one lost his/her life and their are no cases of sustained injuries at the fire scene. But properties worth millions of Naira were lost (Seized goods that were inside the warehouse).  Adebayo said "The training classes were completely burnt, while the main training complex of about 10 classes were savaged."  "Operatives of the Agency, Lagos State Fire Service from Ikeja, Ilupeju and Alausa with Nigerian Police were on ground. Recovery operation is still ongoing"  The Spokesman Adebayo also added that, the General Manager LASEMA, Mr. Micheal Akindele has assured that proper investigation would be conducted to find out the cause of the fire outbreak.

We Are Not Selling Our Refineries

Photo source: trendysturvsblog.com  Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources has stated that the Federal Government has no plan of selling it's refineries, he stated this during an official visit to the Port Harcourt refinery in Alesa Eleme in Rivers state.  The Minister said "We are not inviting foreign partners to take over the refineries, we do not have the funds."  "Even now that they (the refineries) are working, they are probably working at about 60 percent or below capacity and we need to upgrade these refineries, get them to a level where they are doing at least 90 percent performances and it requires money".   He said the total amount for the investment process was in excess of $700 million and that the Federal Government do not have that much. Dr. Kachikwu said that foreign partners were invited so as to get technical support to upgrade Nigeria's capacity to achieve consumer quota and also start exporting.

Federal, State and Local Governments Shared 299.7 Billion in March- Says FG

Photo source; gistus.com  According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mahmud Dutse at the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja, he said a total of N 299.7 billion was shared among the federal government, states and also local governments for the month of March.  This indicates that the revenue for March was less than that of February because February's allocation was N 338.765 billion. Mr. Dutse said the fall in revenue was due to shut-in and shut-down of oil production for repairs and maintenance which continued during the period.

Imo state Governor Urges Youth To support Buhari's War Against Corruption

Photo source: naijagists.com Rochas Okorocha, the Imo state governor called on youths to support President Buhari's anti-corruption war, he stated this during the inauguration of Imo state chapter of the Youths Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) in Owerri, Imo state capital.  The Governor said this, through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Uche Nwosu. He said that the President's anti-corruption war was a positive move and also a step in the right direction to recapture Nigeria from the hands of those who were truncating the future of the youth.  The governor called for patience and perseverance even as the country was facing economic challenges, he expressed hope that Nigeria would become better.

MTN Loses Subscriber Base Of 1.4% In First Quarter Of The Year

As MTN the telecoms company based in South Africa, disconnected millions of subscribers in Nigeria after the Nigerian government ordered that proper registration procedure be talen by subscribers,  their general subscriber base decreased by 1.4%, in across 22 countries.  According to Bloomberg; The Executive Chairman, Phuthume Nhleko in a statement said "In order to mitigate any future regulatory challenges, the group took an exceptionally conservative stance by disconnecting all subscribers who could possibly be deemed to be non-compliant".  "This has had a significant unfavorable impact on total subscriber growth and revenue" in the first quarter of 2016.  Mr. Nhleko(one-time boss of MTN) returned to MTN in November, 2015 to handle the company as the CEO Mr. Sifiso Dabengwa resigned.  About 4.5 million subscribers were disconnected from MTN in Nigeria,  which was a 6.9 percent decrease in Nigeria while in South Africa, there was a 1.7 percent decrea

FBI Payed Over A Million Dollar To Hack Into The San Bernardinho Killer's iPhone

Photo source: theinsidekorea.com  James Comey, the FBI director stated that the FBI paid at least $1.3 Million to get into the San Bernardinho killer's iPhone.  Although he didn't say the precise figure for how much they paid for getting into the iPhone, but it was a projection of his salary for the next 7 years of his tenure, He stated this while speaking at the Aspen Security Forum in London (According to Wall street Journal).  James Comey said "It was worth it". The calculation was based on a projection of Mr. Comey's annual salary which as at January 2015 was $183,300. Projecting it towards the next 7 years would be something around $1.3 million.
