Cross River Political Appointees Makes Plan to Throw Big Party over Ayade’s Victory

The Cross River state government is planning a reception to welcome the Governor, Prof Ben Ayade from Abuja, after his victory over Joe Agi (SAN) at the Supreme Court.

  In the court, the panel of justices held on Friday that Barrister Joe Agi and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not prove the allegation against thegovernor.

The judgment, which was read by Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, said Barrister Agi could not even differentiate between the false document and the original, which was not good enough to make a case.

The panel agreed with Ayade that the difference in his age declaration occurred due to the urgency needed to fill out his forms. The justices said Section 147 of the 1999 constitution as amended put the required age at 35 for Governor, adding that if he used 1968 or 1969 he had already met the requirement to hold the office.

On whether Ayade was a confirmed member of the PDP, the justices held that it was solely a party issue.

The panel said until the party violates its constitution, the court would not interfere.

“Case of falsification without identifying the original from the fake is not good enough,” she said. “I endorse the judgment of the lower court, which affirmed the decision of the lower court.

The planned celebration was displayed in a notice signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Tina Agbor.

 The stated reads “After a well deserved victory at the Supreme Court, Abuja, His Excellency, Senator Ben Ayade the Executive Governor of Cross river State will on Monday 19^th December, 2016 arrive the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar from Abuja.

“Accordingly, all political appointees, heads of MDAs, leaders and members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Traditional rulers, opinion leaders, youth, women and faith-based organizations and all lovers of Ayade and good governance are by this announcement requested to be at the airport at 9:30 am for a short reception and thanksgiving.
