Two Nigerians Die over Fight for a Hundred Naira

No fewer than two persons have lost their lives and also a mosque burnt, over a hundred naira (N100) at the Gariki Market in Enugu State on Wednesday evening.

 The two people that lost their lives were identified as Ali who was Fulani and Ifeanyi who was an Igbo.

 An eyewitness who stated what caused the death also added that it all started late on Wednesday evening when Ali came to slaughter a cow at an abattoir in the new Artisan Market in Enugu metropolis but Ali had to patronize the abattoir in Gariki Market due to the fact that the New artisan market was closed by the Enugu State Government following the killing of a Policeman by Keke NAPEP (tricycle) riders.

 Ifeanyi was in charge of slaughtering cows for a fee of N500, but Ali paid Ifeanyi N400 for the job and Ifeanyi asked for the remaining N100 but Ali refused to pay.

 Then Ali allegedly brought out dagger and stabbed Ifeanyi severally in the stomach which brought out his intestines and he died at the spot.

 Other Igbo traders got angry and beat Ali to death while he tried to escape. The Igbo traders went further by burning a mosque located inside the Gariki Market where most of the Fulanis in the market usually worship. The Police intervened to stop further violence’s.

 The Spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command, Mr Ebere Aamaraizu confirmed the incident saying, the Police had restored normalcy in the market and its environs.

 He said “Two persons were confirmed dead on Wednesday in the course of a clash between an easterner and a northerner over a misunderstanding that arose between them in the evening at Gariki Awkunanaw Market.”
