Afenifere Shuns Buhari For Claiming Babachir Isn’t Corrupt
Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization
has shunned President Muhammadu Buhari for clearing the allegations against the
Secretary to the state Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal.
Yinka Odumakin, the National Publicity Secretary of
the organization said “It is tragic that a presidency, whose sole credential is
anti-corruption, would treat a monumental allegation against one of its principal
officers this way.
“The presidency that has all the time to investigate
the number of committee members, who did not sign a report, could not find time
to investigate the grass-cutting activities of the SGF. It is the lowest low
for the anti-corruption war.”
Earlier on, the Senate called for the SGF’s arrest and
prosecution, following an Interim Report by its ad-hoc committee on mounting
Humanitarian crisis in the North East which indicted him of fraud.
He was
alleged to have awarded contracts to a company he had link to as the Chairman
of the Presidential Initiative of the North East (PINE).
In a letter from
the President, it was read on Tuesday by the Senate President that the
President rejected the decision by the upper legislative house to sack Babachir
Lawal as the SGF saying the reports were not true.
