FG Inaugurates Committee to Boost Universal Health Coverage
The Federal
Government through the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole had recently
inaugurated a committee that would improve health outcomes and accelerate
universal health coverage in Nigeria.
The minister
did the inauguration during the commissioning of 100 units of powerkits donated
to National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) by B-medics.
The PHC
supply chain revitalization committee will ensure a functional PHC per ward
which will improve overall health outcomes in the country and accelerate
Universal Health Coverage in the country.
The Minister
charged the members of the committee to do their work diligently, saying that
the exercise is a major commitment of the President Buhari led administration.
The
Executive Director of NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib said that the federal government
was working to revamp 10,000 Primary Health Care (PHC), across the country.
He said
"as we are all aware, the PHC revitalisation is the cardinal health agenda
of the present administration. The overall goal is to revamp and revitalise up
to 10,000 PHC across the country (at least 1 per ward) principally to improve
the provision of basic healthcare package for over 100 million Nigerians.
"Achieving
this will require collaborative efforts of government at all level, donors,
development partners and private sector".
He added
that the Solar Direct Drive (SDDs) was coming at the right time to guarantee
benefiting facilities with alternative power source especially in the context
of the current drive to improve and stabilize power supply through the national
grid.
The chairman
of the PHC Chain Revitalisation Committee, Modupe Chukwumah said that the
committee will work as team and deliver on its promise.
