Reverend Father kidnapped by gunmen in Edo State
Another
Catholic Church Priest, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Adorolo, has been kidnapped by gunmen
along the Auchi-Okpella highway in Edo State., Owojela’s Blog reports.
Punch has it
that Fr. Adorolo, the Priest in charge of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Iddo
II, Auchi Diocese, was abducted by the
hoodlums on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, on his way from Auchi to the parish.
Confirming
the abduction of the man of God at a press conference, the Catholic Bishop of
Auchi Diocese, Most. Rev Gabriel Dunia, said Fr. Adorolo was kidnapped at a bad
spot on the road at about 6 pm.
“Rev. Fr.
Adorolo was on his way back from Auchi to his parish, St. Benedict Catholic
Church, Okpella, when he was abducted by unknown gunmen at the bad spot near
Okpella at about 6.00 pm on Wednesday evening.
The
abductors have made contact with the church for ransom. The church does not pay
ransom as it is not a profit-making organization.
The diocese
is calling for an unconditional release of the priest. We are holding a mass
for the unconditional release of the priest,” Most Rev. Dunia said.
The State
Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO], DSP Moses Nkombe who also confirmed the
incident, said that operatives have been
deployed to the region with the mandate to rescue the kidnapped Priest as well
as apprehend the culprits behind the dastardly act.
This is not
the first time men of the robe have suffered the indignity of being kidnapped
by criminal elements in the country. Just last week, a Priest who was abducted
and murdered in Imo State was laid to rest amidst tears by many Nigerians who
have continued to wonder why men of God would be targets of kidnappers in the
country.
