Senator Sani sponsors 20 constituents to study in Sudan
Senator
Shehu Sani representing Kaduna central has sponsored 20 Islamic scholars and
students for three months courses in Sudan.
Speaking to the
Media at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) shortly before the
departue of the beneficiaries, Senator Sani said the beneficiaries would study
Islamic law, Arts and Sociology at Khartoom University.
Sani, who is
also the chairman House Committee on Foriegn and local debts, said 40 other
beneficiaries would be sponosred abroad as second batch as soon as the first
batch completed their courses.
The Senator
added that 2,500 students are cutrently studying across various inatitutions of
learning in Nigeria under his sponsorship.
He said,
"I sponsored Islamic scholars to further their studies in Sudan so that
when they return to Nigeria they can fight extremism through their sermons and
preachings."
Sani assured
that he would use any available opportunity that comes his way to facilitate
the education of his contituents, saying "education is a key to
development."
He urged the
beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by paying attention to their studies
and be good ambassaor of their country while in Sudan.
One of the
beneficiaries, Imam Ja'far Musa, commended the senator for the gesture and
called on other senators and wealthy individuals to emulate Senator Sani by
sponsoring more people to study abroad.
"The
initiative is a good one and worthy of emulation because it will help the
country in various ways," he said.
