Ekiti 2018: Adeyeye blasts Fayose for allegedly barring media from guber campaign
The Prince
Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose and his
cronies of allegedly ordering some electronic media in Ekiti State to blacklist
its campaigns due to personal animosity.
PAAM, is the
political platform of the former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who is
gunning for the governorship seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
The adoption
of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola as the PDP’s sole candidate for
the July 14 election, had pitted Adeyeye against a section of the party loyal
to Fayose.
A statement
signed by the PAAM’s Director of Media and Publicity, Chief Niyi Ojo, described
as too belittling and appalling, series of alleged text messages being sent to
some journalists in Ekiti against covering Adeyeye’s campaign on the premise
that they were on retainership with the government.
The
statement averred that journalists were daily being harassed by government’s
agents for being fair to the opposition, saying no amount of desperation and
coercion will make Fayose succeeds in his bid to unleash his surrogate on the
state.
Ojo said:
“The attention of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) has been drawn to a
text message from Lere Olayinka, the Special Assistant to Governor Fayose on
Public Communication to some electronic media not to cover the declaration for Governorship
rally of Prince Adeyeye.”
He quoted
the text as: “The Governor is opposed to you going to cover opposition
functions particularly, Adeyeye and co”.
He added,
“It should be noted that the retainership these stations have with Ekiti State
Government is serviced with Ekiti tax payers’ money not from the private pocket
of Ayo Fayose.
“Moreover,
it is the highest level of executive lawlessness for a Governor to term a
member of his own party “opposition” simply because of dissenting opinions as to
how the the new candidate of the party will emerge.
“One does
not need a soothsayer to conclude that the desperation of Fayose to pick a
successor is fast becoming a comic show eliciting laughter from all
stakeholders. The media houses are enjoin to live up to their responsibilities
of unbiased and balance reportage in the interest of Ekiti State in particular
and Nigeria generally”.
