Zoning has ‘killed’ Abia – SDP chairman, Nwosu
The Abia
state chairman of the Social Democratic Party,SDP, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, has stated
that the party will not adhere to the Abia charter of equity in choosing its
governorship candidate for the upcoming 2019 elections.
He said, the
party will not zone its governorship slot to any particular senatorial zones in
the state, stressing that only credible aspirants will fly the SDP flags.
The Abia
charter of equity was made by the founding fathers of the state to ensure the
governorship seat rotates among the three senatorial districts in Abia state.
Nwosu who
spoke with a Media source in a chat on Wednesday morning, also stated that the
agreement had hindered the growth and development of the state.
According to
the former Abia lawmaker, “Abia is in a great search for salvation. The charter
of Equity has doomed Abia. It has raised mediocre in leadership. And that is
what has kept Abia state down.”
” Abia State
is the least developed state in Nigeria, compared to the volume of resources
that is before us, from both the Internally Generated Revenues and from federal
derivation.
“Notwithstanding,
we are till the least developed state in the federation. So, there is no zoning
in SDP. We are not going to zone any elective position to any particular
senatorial zone in Abia.”
The SDP
chairman, however, restated the resolve of the state leadership of the party to
ensure a fair playing ground in the forthcoming primary elections.
He said that
the party will field credible candidates, no matter the senatorial zone in all
elective positions in the upcoming 2019 general elections.
