UN POLAC Peace Programme caps Ojong Agbor 'Ambassador of Peace'

The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre Peace Programme UN-PPP on Saturday capped Ojong Agbor Ambassador of Peace Owojela's Blog learnt.


Every 21st September globally is earmarked International Day of Peace by the United Nations. The 2019 edition of the world day was themed Climate Action for Peace.

The colourful event which took place in Calabar, Cross River capital city attracted the state governor, Senator Professor Ben Ayade who was represented by the SSG Tina Agbor, Speaker of the Assembly, Eteng Jones Williams, Heads of Security Agencies, traditional rulers in the state and other stakeholders.

The UN POLAC Peace Programme since the 2001 to 2010 international decade of peace and non violence declaration by the United Nations has been in the forefront of identifying and acknowledging outstanding persons whose services or activities have helped in extending the frontiers of global peace, sustainable development and shared prosperity.

In respect of the above, His Excellency Agbor was awarded for upholding unrivaled ethical standard for peace and nation building and for displaying unequalled humility, simplicity, integrity and deep loyalty to human causes.

While addressing the audience, the keynote speaker Prof Ani Nkang who is the Vice Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University Akpabuyo argued that there's a link between climate change and national security. According to him, 'If we deplete our forest what we find is competition for scarce resources, herdsmen crisis, you have to fund researches to identify trees that can stand the test of time, not just plant trees, there's need for more awareness because a lot of people don't know what we are saying.'

POLAC which is an acronym for Positive Livelihood Award Centre was formed in Nigeria in 2001. It has gives out ambassador for peace award to deserving persons who have encouraged international peace, integration, social harmony, cross cultural understanding, sustainable development and shared prosperity, despite religion, race, creed, status, ethnicity, affiliation, colour or cultural/language disparity.
